Abstract

594,214. Rotary pumps. EATON MANUFACTURING CO. June 29, 1945, No. 16597. Convention date, Oct. 27, 1944. [Class 110(ii)] In a pump of the type comprising internallymeshing gear-wheels having n and n+1 teeth, the end faces 74, 76 of the inner wheel 20 are covered with rubber and the tooth faces of one wheel, preferably the outer, are also covered with rubber as at 70. The outer wheel annulus 18 is carried by an end disc 22 secured on a shaft 28 which is urged to the left by a spring 92. When pumping pressure obtains the shaft 28 and wheel 18 are moved to the right by the permitted amount 96. The shaft 34 carrying the inner wheel 20 is positioned so as to provide a permanent clearance 78 between the rubberfaced end 74 and the wall of the casing 10. The inlet and outlet ports 62, 64, Fig. 3, open to the end face 74 and the inlet port is in communication with the space 12 in the casing surrounding the wheels to facilitate reversal of the pump, two ports 104 communicate with the space 12 and are provided with similar tapped holes 103. As shown, one port 104 is open to the port 64 and the other is shut by a screw plug 108. By exchanging the screw-plug 108 and the cock 114, the arrangement is reversed.
