Abstract
623,802. Rotary pumps. PRECISION DEVELOPMENTS CO., Ltd., and OLAH, G. May 15, 1947, No. 13124. [Class 110(ii)] A pump has fluid under pressure, preferably delivery pressure, supplied to joined grooves 17 surrounding the shafts 3, 4 which create, at the ends of displacement elements, such as gears 1, 2, pressures which oppose axial displacement of each element from its central position. The depth of each groove 17, in a bearing 9, may be .015 inch and all grooves are connected by cross-bores 18 and passages 19 to the pump delivery 15 or a similar passage 15a. A restriction 16 ensures that a certain minimum pressure is always maintained in the passages 18, 19 even when the pump runs light. Further passages 20, 21, 22 connect the outer ends of bearings 9 with a drain 23. The gears 1, 2 are recessed to form annular chambers 26 which allow pressure fluid to flow up the sides of the gear. An Oldham coupling 14 is provided. In a modified arrangement a high-pressure oil seal is provided outside each oil groove.
