Abstract

106,521. Wells, R. F., and Milner, H. L. May 22, 1916. Fixed - abutment type; discharge and suction passages ; packing drums and vanes. -A rotary airblower for use with flying-machines comprises a drum c carrying hinged vanes e in peripheral recesses d and mounted eccentrically in a casing a having its inlet and outlet passages g, j arranged tangentially as shown. Oil for lubricating and packing is supplied to the pivots f through the side walls of the casing, and is collected at the outlet port j by a. recess l and forced, by the delivery pressure through pipes back to the side walls. The drum may be mounted on ball bearings p and driven through gearing; or it may be secured to the shaft b, which is then driven directly. The vanes may be pressed outwards centrifugally, or by springs &c.
