Abstract

346,020. Force-feed lubricators. PHILLIPS, H. C., 45, Conduit Street, Gloucester. Nov. 30, 1929, Nos. 36745/29 and 29105/30. [Class 12 (iii).] A rotary engine, pump, compresser, or the like, which is adaptable for the transmission of power between a reciprocating piston and a rotary shaft, comprises an eccentric piston 3 which rotates within a casing but without contracting peripherally therewith and is engaged by a plurality of cylindrical rollers 6 which are located in recesses 5 in the casing and urged into contact with the piston so that a fluid chamber 7 varying in volume is provided. A rotary engine is shown in Fig. 1 in which the working fluid is admitted to and exhausted from the working space 7, bounded by the periphery of the eccentric piston 3 and the oppositely situated roller abutments 6, through timed valves 9, 10 actuated from the shaft 4 of the piston 3. Pipes 14 admit the pressure fluid to the abutment recesses 5 to act on the rollers 6. The lower space 8 may be utilized to draw in oil through an opening 16 and discharge it through a pipe fitted with a non-return valve. Fig. 13 shows a force feed lubrication arrangement in which oil from the upper working space 7 enters a duct 16 which is later cut off by the piston 3 and the oil is thereupon compressed by the differential plunger 40, the large area of which is exposed to the pressure in the working space 7. Specification 345,667, [Group XXVI], is referred to.
