Abstract
1470563 Rotary pumps H FEND 5 April 1974 [13 April 1973] 15242/74 Heading F1F A rotary pump, e.g. vacuum pump comprises a piston 17, fixed to a pump casing 15 and having at least one radially slidable vane 37, and a rotary cylinder 71 centrally mounted on a spigot 20 which is eccentrically located on a rotatable shaft 19 coaxial with the piston. As shown, the piston is annular, the inner end of the vane 37 bearing against cylindrical member 73 integral with the rotary cylinder 71. The pump draws fluid via passages 43, 44 into suction space 45, and after compression it is transferred from space 45' via a groove 46 in casing 15 to the space between piston 17 and member 73. Here it is further compressed and then exhausted via a ball-valve 50 covered in oil, and passages 49, 52, 53 into the space above an oil reservoir, finally leaving via outlet 42. Oil is drawn into the inner working chamber via passages 22, 23 and groove 64 in the shaft, and groove 35 in the member 73 lubrication of the shaft 19 being simultaneously effected. The rotary cylinder is balanced by weights 27, 27' and 28. The pump may be mounted on a horizontal axis Figs. 3, 4 (not shown). In another arrangement Figs. 5, 6 (not shown), the cylinder is not connected to the spigot, but is located by the vane 37 together with two further vanes which are slotted so as not to effect any pumping.
