Abstract
567,510. Rotary compressors. CLAYTON DEWANDRE CO., Ltd., and RODWAY, J. Aug. 30, 1943, No. 14125. [Class 110 (ii)] An outwardly-sliding vane compressor delivers air to a reservoir through a filter and oil separator, for use in braking, steering and other purposes on vehicles, and has valve means to maintain the supply of sealing and lubricating oil to the compressor under control of air pressure (a) directly from the compressor, or (b) from the reservoir. The compressing system includes an air leak for the purpose of allowing the pressure in the reservoir to fall when no demand is made upon it, thereby enabling 'the compressor to re-charge the reservoir. The compressor is of the type described in Specification 563,454, having radial vanes 1 in an eccentric rotor 2 on a shaft 3, with spring-loaded end-sealing plates 7 which do not rotate. Cam rings 12 cause outward movement of the vanes. Oil seals 15, 16 are provided. Lubricating oil passes through an inlet F, filter 17, and passages 18, 19, leading to the shaft bearings. Oil-laden compressed air passes through a filter 22, and the cleaned air is led upwards through a passage 23 past a non-return valve 25 into conduit G leading to the reservoir. When the latter is fully charged, air pressure unseats a valve 26, presses on a piston 27 causing a piston-rod 29 to open a valve 30 to allow the air to escape from a chamber 24 to atmosphere through ports 31, 32. The space behind the piston has a leakoff passage leading to atmosphere, and is regulated by a needle valve. A spring-pressed valve may be included, to raise the leak-off pressure. The valve 26 is opened against the action of a bellows device 37, which, as the air pressure in the reservoir falls, re-seats the valve 26 and cuts off the piston 27. A spring 38 returns the piston and allows the valve 30 to re-seat so that compressed air from B can again pass the non-return valve 25 to re-charge the reservoir.
