Abstract

296,564. Lammeren, W. P. van. March 12, 1928. Movable abutment type; working-fluid supply; cooling parts. - A rotary engine or pump of the sliding abutment type with an annular chamber and piston 4 of circular cross-section has the piston 4 formed cam-shape and with a groove 13 of a shape to correspond with the semi-circular abutting end of the sliding abutment, Fig. 10. Fig. 6 shows an internal-combustion engine in which mixture compressed in a compressor chamber 24 is transferred past a rotary disc valve 29 to the explosion chamber 25. The compressor and engine pistons are arranged at an angle to each other and also the disc valve 29 are carried by a rotor which is formed with flanges co-operating with the stator to form the annular chambers 24, 25 of circular cross-section. The abutments 5 may be spring-actuated but are shown fitted with control pistons 6 for pneumatic operation, the compressor abutment being actuated by the exhaust gas pressure and the engine abutment by the compressed gas pressure through the medium of the disc valve 29 carried by the rotor. The rotor is cooled by openings 36 for the passage of air and the stator by water jackets 37. In the modification shown in Fig. 8 the engine unit is replaced by turbine blades 46. Mixture is compressed past a valve 42 into an explosion chamber 43 and after ignition is delivered past a valve 45 on to the blades. The compressor piston, valves 42, 45, and turbine blades 46 are carried by a single rotor 47.
