Fixed-abutment type; cooling parts; packing vanes etc.; valve-gear; valves, distributing etc.; working-fluid supply.-Relates to rotary engines of the type described in Specification 13,607/11 having sliding-rocking vanes. The improved engine maybe used either as an internal-combustion engine, a steam-engine, or a compressor. In a multi-cylinder engine, each cylinder 3 houses a packed vane 21 carried by a central shaft 11 and projecting between roller bearings 25 in a packed rocking member 16 mounted in a drum 14 which is itself mounted by means of lateral extensions on eccentric casing bosses 9 and flanges 6. In the case of a gas-engine, compressed gases are delivered by a pump 49, which may be driven from an eccentric 54 on the shaft 11, into hollow rotary cut-off valves 35 which are interconnected by hollow spindles 39. These valves are driven by bevel-gearing from the shaft 11 and are provided with ports 36 communicating in turn with the casing inlet passages 26, 27, which are fitted with reversing- valves 30 arranged so that when one valve 30 connects the inlet 26 with the cut-off valve 35 the other valve connects the outlet 27 with the central exhaust passage 33, and vice versa. The valves 30 are all reversed simultaneously by a lever 56. The charge is ignited by sparking-plugs 63. Water-passages formed in the vane and shaft may be connected by a pipe with a water-jacket for the casing. The valves 35 are packed by rings 37 connected by bars 38.
