Abstract

104,244. George, J. W. March 24, 1916. Fixed-abutment type; working-fluid supply.- In a rotary internalcombustion engine wherein a drum d, Figs. 1 and 2, carries hinged vanes g co-operating with fixed abutments L in adjoining compression and power chambers b<1>, c<1> separated by a partition i, the charge is drawn into the chambers b<1> through passages e, m in the drum, and compressed through valves P and cam-operated valves r in the partition i into the explosion chambers c', the gases exhausting through passages n, f in the drum. The vanes g are operated by a fixed cam w engaging cams w' on their spindles, which carry also cams w<3> for operating the valves r. In a modification, Fig. 3, the chambers b' act as both compression and power cylinders, the charge being drawn in through a drum passage m and an inlet valve s by a vane g and forced by a following vane g<1> through a passage u and valves t in the drum d into a chamber b' behind another vane g<1>, where it is ignited, the exhaust gases being expelled by a following vane g through a passage n in the drum.
