Abstract
556,817. Lubricating. FREEMAN, W. R. April 20, 1942, No. 5242. [Class 12 (iii)] A compressor is supplied with oil from a reservoir 8 only when the compressor is operating. Compressed air passes through conduit 7 to move a piston 30 in a chamber 22 whereby the air can enter the reservoir through passage 29 and tube 9. At the same time a projection 21 on the piston 30 unseats a valve 27 in a chamber 23 whereby oil flows from the reservoir 8 through passage 20 and conduit 19 to the bearings and working parts of the compressor but from the top of the compressor can pass through check valve 12 and conduit 10 to an air receiver 11. The inlet of the compressor is connected to a valve assembly 14 which may be constructed as described in Specification 544,554, [Group XXVI]. The valve assembly is controlled by the air pressure in the reservoir 11 so that when the pressure therein reaches a predetermined value the compressor is cut off from communication with the atmosphere through an air cleaner 15 which instead is connected to the reservoir 8 by way of conduit 17.
