Abstract
561,464. Regulating compressors. HEYWOOD COMPRESSOR, CO., Ltd., HUNT, J. A., and MOREILLON, A. E. Oct. 19, 1942, No. 14627. [Class 8 (i)] The inlet pressure of a high - pressure compressor drawing air from a source of low pressure; e.g. a reservoir or low-pressure compressor, for use on aircraft is maintained constant at altitudes at which the low-pressure air supply can be maintained by an automatic regulator. The regulator may comprise an evacuated bellows subject to the pressure in the inlet j through a clearance n round the stem of a double-heatvalve h, i actuated by the bellows and controlling the supply from the low-pressure source, which may be the aircraft pressure cabin, engine supercharger, a low-pressure compressor or blower, or an air reservoir. According to the Provisional Specification, a piston or sleeve type valve is employed, and wind may supply the low pressure.
