[Classes 110 (i) and 110 (iii)] A constant pressure gas turbine drives a compressor which supplies air to an external user, such as a forge, blast furnace or converter, and also to the combustion chamber of the turbine. Various methods of regulation are described. A compressor 2, Fig. 3, delivers air to a combustion chamber 5 by a pipe A and to an external 'user by a pipe B, A flow meter 7 responsive to the flow of air to the user and acting in opposition to a flow meter 7a measuring the flow of fuel gas from a pump 6 varies the supply of fuel gas to the turbine by controlling a byepass valve 9. When the fuel gas pump is driven by a separate gas turbine, an inlet throttle on that turbine may be controlled by the meter 7. Or, the starting motor 3 may drive the fuel pump and the meter 7 may control the speed of the motor. In Fig. 7, a throttle 14 in the supply to the fuel pump 6 is con'trolled by the meter 7 and also by an emergency speed governor 17. If the user's demands, in limiting the supply of air to the combustion chamber, cause an undue rise in the turbine temperature a device 15 operates a throttle valve 16 in the pipe B. The turbine exhaust may be used to preheat either the whole of the compressed air or only that part supplied to the combustion chamber.
