[Classes 110 (i) and 110 (iii)] In a continuous combustion gas turbine plant, the gas flow is reduced for partial loads by the introduction into the gas circuit at the inlet to the compressor or elsewhere of an additional turbine and surging due to the reduced gas flow is prevented by throttling or equivalent means or by returning part of the compressor delivery back to the compressor volute. The throttling means may be a valve or baffle at the compressor intake, o.r, in the diffuser or diffusers, or, in a multi-diffuser pump, may be flexible walls in the diffusers by which the cross-section of the diffusers can be varied.
