Abstract
538,956. Gas turbines. SULZER FRERES SOC. ANON. Feb. 21, 1940, No. 3250. Convention date, May 10, 1939. [Class 110 (iii)] Rapid regulation of a gas turbine installation is effected by means of a turbine coupled to the turbocompressor and driven by air from a storage vessel. Air for the combustion chamber 5 is supplied by compressors la, 1 in series. The exhaust from the main turbine 6, which carries a useful power shaft 35, passes through a heat-exchanger 4 to a turbine 6a. An accelerating turbine 13 is coupled to the set 1a, 6a and is supplied with compressed air from a container 8. The turbine 13 has two sets of nozzles and supply is controlled by valves 11, 12 which open in turn. Non-return valves 17, 18 prevent counter flow. Further acceleration can be produced by means of a burner 24 in front of the turbine 6a. Regulation for partial load is provided by a valve 22 byepassing the turbine 6a. When the turbine 13 is not is use a valve 19 is open. In a modification, the turbines 6, 6a are in parallel and the air from the container 8 passes through a heater in the combustion chamber.
