Abstract

811,434. Gas turbine plant. CHRYSLER CORPORATION. April 13, 1955, No. 10676/55. Class 110 (3). [Also in Group XIII] In a gas turbine plant in which combustion air is preheated in a rotary regenerator (see Group XIII) having a glass matrix 13, air is drawn through a converging inlet 11 of a centrifugal type compressor 10 and is forced by the rotor vanes 25 to a diffuser 29 leading to a chamber 31 and thence through the regenerator matrix in which it is preheated before being mixed with fuel and burned. Combustion gases from the combustion chambers (not shown) flow into a passage 36 and thence through a turbine 43 driving the compressor and a turbine 45 driving the power output shaft 48, before flowing into a chamber 42, the gases giving up heat to the regenerator matrix in passing therethrough to an exhaust chamber 51. Intake air after passing through the compressor rotor vanes 25 flows additionally to a radially extending portion 26 having a peripheral discharge opening 30 for creating a centrifugal head.
