Abstract

791,917. Gas turbine plant. HOSSACK, N. Dec. 5, 1955 [Dec. 3, 1954], No. 35008/54. Class 110 (3). In a gas turbine plant, the rotor of an air compressor supplying air to the combustion chamber constitutes also the turbine rotor and the rotor blades constitute a regenerative heat exchanger by which heat is transferred from the combustion gases to the air being compressed. The plant shown comprises a double-sided centrifugal type compressor 27, air being supplied thereto through inlets 17. The rotor vanes are formed with extensions 13 which constitute turbine blades. The air issues from the volute 18 into the combustion equipment 11 and the combustion gases issue through outlet 23 on to the extensions 13, thereby driving the rotor and finally discharge at 24. The air issuing from the compressor vanes 13a passes across the turbine blades 13 and becomes heated before discharging to the combustion equipment.
