620,492. Gas turbine plant. GRIFFITH, A. A. May 13, 1946, No. 14414. [Class 110(iii)] Air is taken in by a supercharging compressor 7 passes through an interstage cooler 12 to a main compressor 1 and is delivered through a heat-exchanger 2 to a combustion chamber 3. The products of combustion are used in a high-pressure turbine 4 driving the main compressor 1 and a low-pressure turbine 5 providing useful power. The exhaust goes through the heat-exchanger 2 and is further expanded in an exhaust turbine 8 which drives the supercharging compressor. When the heat-exchanger 2 has a high efficiency, the power supplied to the turbine 8 is varied by by-passing the heat-exchanger and/or, burning further fuel in the chamber 9. When the heat-exchanger has a low-exchanger has a low-efficiency, the turbine 8 is brought to idling condition by a by-pass to atmosphere at 13. Specification 529,786 is referred to.
