To increase the power output of a gas turbine plant comprising a main turbine compressor means which supplies turbine exhaust gas to a mechanically independent power turbine an auxiliary compressor mechanically independent of the main turbine compressor means is arranged to deliver compressed air to one or more compressed air inlets of the main turbine compressor means and the volume of turbine exhaust gas from the main turbine compressor means for the power turbine is increased by augmentation, by gas or by expansion through an auxiliary, turbine. In the arrangement shown, Fig. 1, the power turbine c is fed with turbine exhaust gas by a turbine compressor plant a, b. When increased power is required the auxiliary turbine compressor d, e is put into operation. Air bled from the compressor d is passed through a cooler 15 to the intake of the compressor a, and gas bled from the turbine e is mixed with the exhaust gases from the turbine b before they enter the power turbine c. To prevent choking of the low-pressure stages of the turbine c, gas may be bled from this turbine at 13 and passed back to the turbine e. More than one bleed may be provided on the turbine c, each bleed being connected to a different stage of the turbine e. In a modification, Fig. 4, air is fed to the inlet of a compressor a<SP>1</SP> by an auxiliary compressor d<SP>1</SP> driven by an auxiliary turbine e<SP>2</SP>. The volume of exhaust gas from the turbine b is increased by the addition of combustion gases from a combustion chamber 8 supplied by compressors d<SP>2</SP>, d<SP>3</SP> driven by an auxiliary turbine e<SP>1</SP>. Gas bled from the turbine, c at 20, 21 is passed to the turbine e<SP>2</SP> and mixed with the exhaust of the turbine e<SP>1</SP> respectively. To further increase the power, the heat exchanger 22 may be by-passed on both the air and gas sides. In a modification of this arrangement, the volume of exhaust gas is increased by mixing 'air from a further independent compressor driven by an auxiliary turbine fed with gas bled from the power turbine c. In another modification, with a reheating chamber between' the turbines b and c, the exhast gas from the turbine b is expanded in an auxiliary turbine driving the auxiliary compressor before use in the turbine c.
