Abstract

734,893. Rotary compressors. BROOM, H. S. May 28, 1954 [May 28, 1953], No. 14928/53. Class 110 (2). A two-stage rotary compressor of the outwardly sliding vane type has a low-pressure rotor 32 disposed above and parallel to the highpressure rotor 31 to allow the air carrying cooling oil to pass directly in a smooth curve from outlet ports 41 of the first stage to inlet ports 43 of the second stage so that the oil is not thrown out of suspension. The rotors are geared together to rotate in opposite directions at the same speed, the high-pressure rotor 31 being driven through a coupling 13 bolted to the fly-wheel of an engine, the casing 11 being bolted to the engine's crankcase. The rotor 31 drives a low-pressure gear pump 51, 53 and two highpressure gear pumps 56, 57 and 58, 59 for supplying oil for lubrication and to the injections 47, 48 for spraying into cylinders 25, 26 for cooling purposes. An unloading valve 74 closed by the discharge pressure is placed in the air intake and a non-return valve 77 is placed in the compressor outlet. Slots 71, 72 are provided in the rear faces of the vanes 33, 34 for lubricating purposes and for equalization, of the pressure of the air enclosed behind the vanes. In a modification the rotors are placed side-byside in parallel relation.
