Abstract
993,326. Rotary-piston compressors. BORSIG A.G., UND MANKEL G.m.b.H. Jan. 7, 1963 [Jan. 31, 1962], No. 778/63. Heading F1F, In a rotary-piston compressor of the n and n+1 tooth type, having an outer 9-toothed piston 1, Figs. 1 and 2, driven through a hollow shaft 2 by an electric motor 3 and driving an eccentrically-mounted inner 8-toothed piston 7, the outer piston rotates in and is wholly supported by a main bearing 4 to eliminate bending stresses on the shaft resulting from the pressure of the working medium. The working medium comprising refrigerant mixed with lubricating oil passes through the motor cover 14 and then divides, some going through an axial shaft bore 17, a thrust bearing 6 and the main bearing 4 before reaching the compressor inlet 12 and the remainder through ducts 16 and a shaft bearing 5. The working medium being finally discharged through the compressor outlet 13. Lubricating oil under pressure is admitted through a duct 15 and passes into a recess 23 to lubricate the bore of the inner piston and thence to grooves 20 behind a spring-loaded sealing ring 10. A sealing layer 11 is fitted between the piston faces and a cover 9. Sealing is assisted by the pressure of the working medium urging the inner piston against the bottom face of the cup-shaped outer piston. Oil seals the clearances between the teeth of the pistons. A pressure relief valve may be fitted in an outlet 22 to relieve excessive pressure in the compressor should a surplus of lubricating oil be present.
