Abstract
1,026,165. Meshing-screw compressors and expanders. SVENSKA ROTOR MASKINER A.B. Oct. 16,1962 [Nov. 8, 1961], No. 39068/62. Heading F1F. In a rotary compressor, or expander, of the meshing-screw type, the axial thrust on a male male rotor 10 (Fig. 1, not shown) is balanced by a pressurized liquid, e.g. oil, acting on a piston 48 which is attached to a shaft extension 26 at the high-pressure end of the rotor. The said liquid is supplied by an independent source to a chamber 44 containing the piston through an inlet 44, leakage into an adjacent working space 20 being minimized by a labyrinth seal 46. The piston is coupled to the shaft extension by a key 49 and abuts the inner race of a roller bearing 30 which in combination with a ball bearing 32 supports the shaft extension in a chamber 50. Leakage of said liquid from chamber 44 into the chamber 50 serves to lubricate the bearings, whilst leakage into the space 20 effects lubrication of the highpressure end of the male rotor and that of an associated female rotor 12 (Fig. 2, not shown). Surplus liquid in the chamber 50 escapes through an opening 51. Sealing and cooling liquid, e.g. oil, is injected into the space 20 from a chamber 36 through a plurality of slots 38 formed in a housing structure 14 for the rotors.
