Abstract
976,054. Bearings. MASCHINENFABRIK OERLIKON. April 9, 1963 [April 13, 1962], No. 14192/63. Heading F2A. A plain bearing for a shaft 1 having a ring 2 fixed thereon which raises lubricant from a reservoir, comprises a housing 3 which supports an axially displaceable doctor-blade 4, has an outlet port 8 therein which leads to a rising pipe 10, or to a valve 13, connected to an oil cooler (not shown) and has by-passes 11 and grooves 12 therein for the purpose of emergency lubrication. The doctor-blade 4 is fitted in a groove in the housing 3 and, when the shaft 1 rotates in the direction of the arrow 6, lubricant is conveyed from the reservoir through an opening 7 in the housing to the doctor-blade and is passed through the port 8 at a high pressure. The lubricant then passes through the cooler to lubrication-grooves (not shown) of the bearing. Clearances 9 are provided between the housing and the doctor-blade to allow for axial movement of the latter which may take place due to expansion or contraction of the shaft.
