Abstract
1351887 Reciprocating pumps and motors J U THOMA and R GALDABINI 3 Feb 1972 [11 Feb 1971] 5065/72 Heading F1A In a fixed or tilting head-type pump or motor having axial or inclined pistons 45, the cylinders 40 are individually mounted in a carrier 15 with ball joints 38 or resilient couplings permitting angular movement with respect to the carrier. As shown, the pistons 45 are connected to a drive flange 13 having ports 51 communicating via piston passages 50 with the cylinders, and sequentially communicating during rotation with inlet and outlet ports 52 in casing 12. The cylinders 40 have slippers 26 engaging abutment 27, working liquid lubricating the slippers via passages 55, 56. The pitch circle of ball joints 46 is greater than that of ball joints 38. Carrier flange 21 may have apertures 41 receiving the cylinders with clearance, as shown, or may be star-shaped with projections extending between the cylinders, Fig. 3 (not shown). In Fig. 2 (not shown), flow to and from the cylinders passes through passages in slippers 26 and carrier 15, the carrier passages (61) communicating sequentially with inlet and outlet ports in the abutment member (28') and the pistons engage axially slidable members (71) in the drive flange, the slidable members (71) having slippers (75) engaging a surface of the casing. The valving arrangements may be replaced by pintle valves.
