Abstract

1,065,272. Rotary pumps. ZAHNRADFABRIK FRIEDRICHSHAFEN A. G. July 3, 1964 [July 5, 1963], No. 27583/64. Heading F1F. A rotary pump of the outwardly-sliding vane type comprises a rotor (3), Figs. 1, 2, 3 and 5 (not shown), attached to a driving shaft (2) by splines (74) and carrying a plurality of radial vanes (5) in slots (4), which vanes engage with a substantially elliptic bore in an abutment or cam ring (6) lodged in a casing 1 between circular pressure-loaded check-plates (7, 8) having limited freedom to move axially in said casing and fluid-inlet ports (42, 42') communicating with an inlet passage (21') through an annular chamber (21) surrounding the cam ring, chambers (17, 18) at the rear of the check plates being connected to each other by pairs of fluid-outlet ports or apertures (45, 46) in said plates and a pair of axial bores (49) in the cam ring whilst the chamber (17) is connected to an outlet (17') for pumped fluid by a passage (77) in said casing. A surface (14) on the rear of the plate (8) has a greater area than that of an annular surface (13) on the rear of the plate (7) whereby pressure exerted by fluid in the chambers (17, 18) effects a resultant axial-thrust causing the plate (7) to be pressed against a shoulder (32) on the casing with consequent sealing of the ends of the cam ring and the rotor in accordance with the output pressure of the pump. The vanes are pressed against the cam ring by fluid entering the slots (4) through axial bores (52) in the plate (8), which bores are in register with arcuate ports (53) in the plates (7, 8). Initial loading of the plate (8) is provided by compression springs (20), Fig.4 (not shown). Pressure in a space (60) between the innermost end of the shaft (2) and the plate (8) is relieved through bores (67, 68) in said shaft and a bore (66) in the plate (7) communicating with one of the ports (42, 42') within this plate.
