Abstract
778,510. Rotary motors and pumps. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. Jan. 10, 1956, No. 813/56. Class 110 (2). In a motor or pump of the type shown, the casing bore is formed of two rising and two falling portions, each rise portion being separated from the adjacent fall portions by arcuate dwell portions. The contour of each rise and fall portion is in the form of an Archimedean spiral modified by a one-cycle sinusoidal curve superimposed thereon. Each rise or fall contour is determined by the equation where S is the radial displacement of the surface from a base circle of radius equal to the minimum radius of that surface at an angle 6 from that minimum surface and H is the maximum radial displacement of the surface of the respective rise or fall portion, from the base circle, at an angle # 0 from the minimum radius. For a pump, liquid is sucked in through ports 20 and discharged by vanes 14 through ports 18. Hydraulic pressure acts in chambers 16 to force the vanes outwards.
