Abstract

489,955. Rotary engines. FLUVARIO, Ltd., and GUINNESS, E. E. Feb. 5, 1937, No. 3649. [Class 110 (ii)] The engine or pump of the roller, or sliding vane, type is provided with means to move a stator 24 to decrease the eccentricity, when the fluid pressure in the delivery pipe (in the case of a pump) rises unduly. Roller vanes 29 are supported by a ring 30 in a rotor 28 to pump fluid from an inlet 22 to a delivery port 23. Pressure fluid presses on the underside of a piston 38, through a passage 32 to force up the stator against the pressure of a spring 44, when the delivery pressure is excessive. If the pump is to be reversed, plugs 36, 37, are interchanged to open a passage 33, and close 32. Hard metal liners line the end plates of the outer casing. Instead of plugs 36, 37, non-return valves may be used in passages 32, 33. Sealing rings 53 are forced into engagement with the casing as described in Specification 430,159. In Fig. 7, valves 57 are seated in trunnions 61 which may be rotated by hand, and which seal the passage 33 and open the passage 32, when 22 is the inlet port. A modified arrangement, Fig. 9, shows a stator 24 which may be rotated when fluid in the delivery 23 reaches a pre-determined figure and forces a piston 38 to turn the stator about a pivot located near the suction port 25. When the stator is rotated, the part 71 moves across the delivery port. The bearing portion 70 may be made of phosphor bronze. A sealing member 72 may be pressed upwards by a spring or fluid under pressure. This pump is not reversible so that only one control passage 32 is provided. The piston 38 may be integral with the stator. The invention is applicable to constructions described in Specifications 450,595, 450.625, [both in Group XXIX], 450,669; 450,670, [Group XXIX]. Specifications 430,159 and 474,231 also are referred to.
