Abstract

669,653. Rotary pumps and compressors. BARNES, G. H. June 27, 1950. [June 2, 1949] No. 14825/49. Class 110(ii). A piston 8 is driven by a central shaft 7 and drives a part-circular member 9, eccentrically mounted in a bore 61 or 62 and carried by annular projections 91 fitting in casing grooves 69. Spring, or fluid, pressed packing pieces 10 which may be lignum vitae, are provided. Inlet and outlet ports 66, 67 are arranged as shown in a manifold 68. Fig. 4 shows two working chambers with the working parts angularly displaced to secure balance and continuity of delivery. C-shaped end rings 12, in end grooves of the member 9, prevent excessive outward movement of the sealing strips 10. In a modified arrangement, Fig. 5 (not shown), the piston periphery spans a smaller arc than that shown in Fig. 1. The delivery port may be provided with a light-check valve of metal or a leatherfaced strip. The grooves 69 may carry ball bearings fed by lubricating passages.
