729,281. Rotary compressors or engines. MAKAROFF, V. S. Sept. 30, 1953 [Nov. 22, 1952], No. 26879/53. Class 110 (2), A gyratory piston 14 is integral with an abutment 13, which slides through a slot in a rocking valve 15 having a groove 18 which controls the opening and closing of the delivery port 17, in the case of a compressor. The abutment 13 may have a centre line 47 passing through the centre of the piston, or the line inay pass between the piston centre and the port 17. A line 46, drawn between a lip 22 of the delivery port and the point of "contact" 42 of the piston and its cylinder bore, is parallel with the line 47. End-plates 19 have recesses 24 for ring-like hubs 23 which connect the two halves of the valve 15 together. A shaft 26, in bearings 25, supports crank arms 27 and a pin 28 which actuates the piston. A split bearing 29 is provided with lubricating holes 30 which communicate with end spaces 32 to which an oil pressure feed pipe 33 leads. Further oil pipes 36, 37 are installed. A slight clearance is allowed between the piston and the cylinder bore at the "contact point" 42, sealing being by means of oil. Liquids other than oil may be used for sealing and cooling purposes.
