Abstract

Cam - actuated pumps; revolving cylinder pumps; regulating delivery of two pumps in combination.-In hydraulic pumps and motors, in which the capacity is varied by varying the phase relationship of pistons working in a common cylinder or connected cylinders, and reversing is effected by suitably increasing the extent of the phase difference, the pistons are given true simple harmonic motion and perform two or more cycles for each revolution of the driving or driven shaft. The adjustment may be effected manually, or automatically by means dependent on the pressure produced. In one form, a rotor 7, Figs. 4 and 5, mounted on a shaft 9 has axial cylinders, each accommodating ball or other pistons 13, 14 acted on by a spring disposed between them. Each cylinder has a central port 23 co-operating with ports in a liner' 8, and cam tracks 15, 16 are simultaneously rotatably adjustable by a crown wheel 21, bevel pinions 19, 20, and pinions 17, 18. In modifications, an annular rotor runs on a fixed valve spindle, or a radial cylinder form is used.
