Abstract

516,721. Hydraulic motors. WAHLMARK, G. A. May 4, 1938, Nos. 13302 and 13303. Convention dates, May 17, 1937, and Feb. 7, 1938. [Class 69 (ii)] The distributing valve of a hydraulic swashplate motor comprises a wheel disc with rim 63 and hub 62 mounted eccentrically on the motor shaft and moving so that cylinder ports 28 are alternately opened to the inlet passage 14 through the space around the rim, closed by the rim, and opened to the outlet passage 15 through the space within the rim. Means for working the motor at two speeds comprises a tubular valve 74 surrounding the shaft and adapted to open or close communication between ports 71, 73. As shown in Fig. 1, the motor cylinders each contain two pistons 31, 32, and the valve 74 in its left-hand position allows liquid to act only on the left hand of the piston 31, giving a slow speed, the piston 32 then acting as a piston rod. In the other valve position, liquid entering the port 73 operates the piston 32, giving a high speed. The piston 32 has a conical end bearing on the outer race of a ball bearing carried by the swash-plate. In a modification, each motor comprises two cylinders, one of smaller bore than the other, and each with a single piston acting on the swash-plate, and the valve 74 in one position allows liquid to flow to both cylinders and in the other position to the smaller cylinder only. The inclination of the swash-plate may be adjusted by a screwed rod acting on a lever bearing indirectly on the plate. Specifications 516,565 and 516,764 are referred to.
