1356350 Hydraulic reciprocating pumps and motors SPERRY RAND CORP 13 April 1972 [28 June 1971] 17003/72 Heading F1A In a swash-plate pump or motor comprising a rotary cylinder block 32 supported by splines 34 on a drive-shaft 14 so as to be free to seat on a valve plate 12, the casing 10 surrounding the cylinder block is disposed eccentrically with respect to the block so that the clearance for liquid flow between the block and casing is smaller in the region where the pistons are extended and larger in the region where they are retracted, a baffle 38 dividing the casing interior such that hydraulic forces produced by the liquid on either side of baffle 38 during rotation of the block, and acting to tilt the block, are balanced.
