In a radial cylinder or axial piston pump or motor the angular spacing of the cylinders about the axis is unequal and the pistons are of different cross-sectional areas and/or have different stroke volumes. The angular spacing is obtained from the product of half the sum of the active areas of adjacent pistons or half their stroke volume and 360 degrees divided by the sum of the active areas of all the pistons or their total stroke volume respectively.
