In an axial piston motor or pump comprising a rotary cylinder block 10, Fig. 1, engaging a stationary, angularly adjustable valve plate 17 through complementary part-spherical or flat surfaces, the surface of the valve plate or the block is formed with asymmetrically arranged recesses 17a, Fig. 2, connected to the high-pressure valve plate port 14 via restricted passages 17b and a groove 17c, to provide balancing of the cylinder block against tilting.
