Abstract

1,074,386. Reciprocating pumps and motors. DOWTY TECHNICAL DEVELOPMENTS Ltd. Aug. 9, 1965 [Aug. 19, 1964], No. 33865/64. Heading F1A. In an axial piston pump or motor the leading sides of the arcuate inlet and outlet ports 29, 31 in a stationary valve plate are provided with grooves 32 and 33, respectively, which provide a restricted connection between the cylinder ports and the plate ports. In a pump the T.D.C. and B.D.C. of the pistons occur when the respective cylinder port has just broken communication with the plate ports and in a motor just prior to communication with the plate ports. The cylinder ports are slightly offset from the axes of the respective cylinders. Fig. 1 (not shown) illustrates a tilting head pump having a cylinder block (1) mounted for axial and tipping movement relative to the valve plate (2). The valve plate may be used with fixed and variable displacement cam plate pumps and motors. The cylinder block may be mounted for rotation in bearings and be provided with a valve plate rotatable therewith and axially movable and tiltable relative thereto. The plate is connected to the block by sleeves which enter the cylinder bores.
