Abstract

984,313. Hydraulic reciprocating pumps and motors. COUNCIL FOR SCIENTIFIC & INDUSTRIAL RESEARCH. Feb. 28, 1963 [March 9, 1962; March 13, 1962], Nos. 9279/62 and 9533/62. Heading F1A. An hydraulic pump or motor, especially of the swash-plate type comprises a control member angularly adjustable about the axis of rotation so that the arcuate length of the inlet and exhaust ports in the port member is variable, one end of each length of arc being at a point fixed with respect to the port member. Projections 30, 32 in the inlet and outlet ports 20, 21 respectively of the rotatable port plate 22 define the ends of the effective piston strokes. The angle is chosen so that the compression or decompression of the liquid in each cylinder results in the pressure therein being the same as that in the port with which it is about to communicate. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 6) radial slots 38, 39 are provided in the plate and as each cylinder port moves through the arc 0, the port is closed. Anticlockwise rotation of the plate allows communication between the cylinders and ports 20<SP>1</SP>, 21<SP>1</SP> respectively through the slots 38, 39 until the same cut off point as before is reached, but earlier communication with the ports 21<SP>1</SP>, 20<SP>1</SP> is established when the plate is rotated clockwise.
