Abstract
1,231,997. Reciprocating pumps. SOC. NATIONALE D'ETUDE ETDE CONSTRUCTION DE MOTEURS D'AVIATION. Oct. 15, 1969 [Nov. 13, 1968], No. 50671/69. Heading F1A. A radial cylinder pump comprises two sets of bucket pistons 2a, 2b reciprocated by cams 1a, 1b on a common drive shaft 7, the cylinders of pistons 180 degrees out of phase being connected by passages 8 with slide valves 10 controlled by an angled roller 13 axially slidable on shaft 7 between positions corresponding to maximum and minimum pump output. In the maximum output position of roller 13, as shown, valves 10 are held closed. When the roller is moved to the left, by pump delivery pressure acting on piston 16 against spring 17, valve 10 engage portion 15 of the drive shaft during part or all of each shaft revolution, depending on the roller setting, and open passages 8, so that pistons 2a on their delivery strokes discharge into the cylinders of pistons 2b on their suction strokes. Value 19 is subjected to the pump delivery pressure, and connects piston 16 to delivery pressure or suction pressure to decrease or increase, respectively, the pump output. In Fig.2 2 (not shown), cams 1a and 1b are located adjacent one another, and valves 10 are located to one side of the cam and fiction assemblies. In this embodiment, the cams are offset by a angle depending on the number of pistons in each set, and the slide valves are disposed with their axes bisecting the angle between the axes of their associated pistons.
