In a swash plate or radial piston hydraulic motor having a revolving cylinder block engaging a stationary valve plate 16, the outlet port 20 of the valve plate is tapered, as shown, or terminates in a groove or in a series of apertures, so that, as a cylinder port in the cylinder block approaches the end of the outlet port, the flow area of the port is increasingly restricted, thereby maintaining a positive pressure in the cylinder bores to maintain the piston slippers in contact with the swash plate or eccentric ring.
