Abstract

1301525 Reciprocating pumps or motors REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT and AUTOMOBILES PEUGEOT 26 May 1970 [12 June 1969] 25296/70 Heading F1A A tilting-head pump or motor comprises a rotary cylinder block 1 supported in a casing 4 pivotable on bearing surfaces P, and pistons connected by rods 6 to a drive flange 7 connected to drive shaft 8, the drive flange being axially supported by a hydrostatic bearing comprising recesses 42 corresponding to the cylinder parts 22, and arcuate parts 43, 44 corresponding to the valve plate parts 23, 24, Figs.3 to 6 (not shown), one arcuate part 43 or 44 being connected to the pressure side of the pump or motor through a valve 52 controlled by a piston 46 in cylinder block support 4, so that the pressure supplied to the hydrostatic bearing is proportional to the angle of tilt of the block. Piston 46 is connected to the pressure side of the pump or motor via passages 47, 50 and 49, the reversible pump or motor shown having two sets of pistons 46 and valves 52, and a non-reversible pump or motor having one set. Pistons 46 may engage valves 52 through balls Fig.7 (not shown). Passages 50 also provide lubrication to bearing surfaces P, and passages 42a provide lubrication from the hydrostatic bearing to piston rod ball joints 5. Valve plate parts 23, 24 communicate with inlet and outlet parts 32, 33 via passages in intermediate members 25, 28, member 25 being slidable on member 28, which is slidable on casing surface 26, a spring 29 biasing member 28 to its left-hand, position, Fig. 2. On tilting the cylinder block to the right in Fig.2, abutment 38 on member 25 engages member 28 and moves it to the right. Piston rod balls 5 are retained by a plate 10 located by a spring 11.
