Abstract

452,301. Winches. LANGDON, A. G., 77, Derby Road, Northam, Southampton. Feb. 27, 1935, No. 6311. [Class 78 (v)] A geared winch, having a drum carried in eccentric or other movable bearings for engagement or disengagement with the driving-gear, is furnished with a driving-shaft disposed at right angles to the axis of the drum and centrally with regard to its ends. As illustrated, the drum 9 is mounted in eccentric bearings 2 which are rotated by the hand lever 5 to engage the gears 13, 20 for hoisting or to contact with a fixed brake surface 23 for controlled gravity lowering. The driving-shaft, which is rotated by hand or power, carries a worm 15 gearing with the worm wheel 17 to drive the countershaft 18 which carries the gear 20.
