146,380. Jones Foundry & Machine Co., W. A.., (Assignees of Jones, W. G.). Sept. 9, 1918, [Convention date]. Toothed gearing comprises two countershaft double-reduction toothed gear trains arranged in line and supported in a casing 6. A driving-shaft 4 passes the middle of the casing and is supported in a socket 14 in a driven shaft 5. A pinion 15 secured to the shaft 4 drives through pairs of gears 20, 19 on three countershafts 21, a gear 28 secured to a sleeve 25 loose on the shaft 4. The sleeve 25 passes through a support 11 extending from the casing and at its far end carries a pinion 26. The pinion 26 drives through pairs of gears 36, 35, on three countershafts 33, a gear 37 secured to the shaft 5. The six countershafts are carried between the ends of the casing 6 and the support 11. Oil splashed up by the gears passes between them and through oil-holes 38, 40, 48. A lubricating-ring 41 may be used dipping into oil in a reservoir 42. One or both of the casing may be removable. Applications to conveyers, hoists, and presses are mentioned.
