Abstract
14,116. Aichele, A. Oct. 5. Variable-speed gearing.-In helical-toothed speed gearing for motor-vehicles &c. with one or more countershafts and a clutch for direct drive, the driving-shaft a is connected by a sliding clutch c with the driven shaft b for direct drive, and carries a helical wheel d always in gear with wheels d<1>, d<11> on countershaft sleeves g, l carrying integral pinions e<1>, f<1> and m<11>, n<11> respectively. The wheels e<1>, f<1>, m<11>, n<11> are adapted to be slid alternatively into engagement with wheels e, f, m, n on the driven shaft b, which surrounds the end of the shaft a and contains thrust bearings p. In order to prevent end pressure on the operating-forks of the sleeves g, l, the inclinations of the teeth on the wheels formed on each countershaft sleeve are such that the tangents of the angles of inclination are proportional to the diameters of the wheels, the teeth of engaging wheels such as f, f<1>, being formed of the same inclination to ensure proper meshing. A reversing-idler s<111> for engaging wheels e', s is provided.
