Variable - speed gearing. - The differential gear is driven from the longitudinal s h a f t 1, Fig. 1, at either of two direct engagement speeds or through the countershaft 17. A slidable toothed wheel 4 clutches the d r i v i n gshaft 1 to either of two internally toothed rings 9, 15 connected respectively with bevel-pinions 24, 26 gearing with bevel-wheels 25, 27 on the casing of the differential gear. The toothed wheel 4 may also gear with a toothed wheel 19 on the countershaft 17, which drives the bevelpinion 27 through the toothed gearing 18, 16. An additional speed and reverse may be provided between the countershaft and bevelpinion 27. The pinion 4 may be shifted by a fork or by a rod 20 in the interior of the driving-shaft 1.
