145,620. Daimler-Motoren-Ges. May 13, 1918. Variable - speed toothed gearing suitable for motor-vehicles comprises parallel driving, intermediate, and driven shafts b, k, t, respectively. The shaft k is constantly driven from the shaft b through gears h, i, and, for the lowest speed, a gear u is slid upon the shaft k into mesh with a gear v secured to the shaft t. A hollow shaft m loose upon the shaft k has a gear r constantly meshing with a gear s fast upon the shaft t. For the second lowest speed, the shaft m is connected to the shaft k by the gear u, which slides into clutch engagement with it. Four higher speeds pass through the shaft m, when loose, to the gear s. Four gears n, o, p, q fast on the shaft m are adapted to be meshed alternatively by gears c, d, f, g feathered to the shaft b. The inner gears f, g slide on a sleeve connecting the outer ones, which are cupped to pass over the others, to save space.
