8753. Kirkup, E. April 13. Variable-speed and reversing toothed gearing, suitable for motor-vehicles, comprises pinions 6 fast on a driving-shaft 2 adapted to drive alternatively wheels 7, 7<a>, 7<b>, 7<c>, which are secured to sleeves slidahle upon an extension 10 of the differential-gear casing 8. The high-speed wheel 7 and the wheel 7<c> for reversed driving are secured to the same sleeve 20, which slides on a feather 9 on the sleeve 10. The sleeve 21 of the second-speed wheel 7<a> is also feathered directly upon the sleeve 10. The sleeve 22 of the wheel 7<b> is feathered on the sleeve 21. The wheels 7 &c. may be advanced into mesh by screwed sleeves 14 turned by chain-wheels 18.
