Abstract
29,975. Miolans, D. Dec. 24. Variable-speed and reversing gearing, suitable for motor-vehicles and machine tools, comprises a disk D having rings of teeth c, d, e on one face, for three forward speeds, and a ring of teeth p on the opposite face, for an additional forward speed and for reversed driving. A pinion b sliding on feathers on a driving-shaft a transmits the drive in all cases. For the ring p to be operative, one of a pair of idlers g, f is meshed therewith, but when the rings c, d, e are directly engaged by the pinion b, the ring p is not engaged. A rod q, which operates the pinion b, carries a cam Q adapted to be engaged by one end of a, lever n, which operates the pair of idlers g, f. As the pinion b is moved outwards from engagement with the ring c, the idler g picks up the ring p, and the pinion b engages and drives the idler f. To effect reversed driving, the pinion b is moved further outwards so as to bring a second pair of idlers h, i also into action.
