Abstract

603,144. Differential gearing. DESMOULINS, E. H. May 9, 1940, No. 8332. Convention date, March 7, 1939. [Class 80 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXIII] Propellers 1, 2, mounted on shafts 3, 4, passing one within the other, are driven in opposite directions from a coaxial driving shaft 8 by epicyclic differential gearing. The latter comprises a freelysupported planet carrier 7 having loose planets sets 9, 10, one set 9 meshing gears 5, 11 on shafts 3, 8 respectively, and the other set 10 meshing a gear 6 on the shaft 4 and a fixed gear 13. The gears may be of the bevel type instead of spur type, and the planetwheels may be compound wheels. Either or both of the propellers may have a braking or stopping device.
