370,189. Variable-speed epicyclic gearing. MATHER & PLATT, Ltd. and MATHER, R. C., Park Works, Manchester. April 8, 1931, No. 10332. [Class 80 (ii).] The two chain wheels a, n of a tentering machine are driven through epicyclic gearing which permits either chain to be accelerated and the other simultaneously retarded. The wheels a, n are connected through bevel gearing with concentric shafts k, v carrying the sun wheels m, w, which are driven through the planet pinions 3, the planet wheel carrier x, and the coupling 2. One of the pinions 3 is connected by a worm 5 and a pinion 7 with a wheel 8 which is loose on the shaft v but can be connected through gearing 11, 12, 13 and a clutch 14 with the smaller or larger wheels 16, 15 fixed on the shaft v, thus driving the pinion 3 in one or other direction and thus accelerating one chain wheel a, n and retarding the other.
