Abstract

399,223. Control of two motors. MORRIS, Ltd., H. and ROBERTSON, G. A., Empress Works, Loughborough. April 2, 1932, No. 9536. [Class 38 (iii).] The rotors 2, 3 of two similar constant speed motors are secured respectively to a hollow shaft 4 driving a sun pinion 13 engaging one or more planet pinions 14, and a shaft 5 passing through and projecting beyond the shaft 4, and driving a pinion 23 meshing with one or more planet pinions 24, the pinions 23, 13 being of different sizes, and the pinions 14, 24 gearing with each other. The planet. pinions 14, 24 are mounted on shafts 15, 25 respectively, carried by a planet cage structure 19, solid with the driving shaft 16, brake pulleys 27, 28 for automatic electromagnetic brakes being provided on the shafts 16, 5 respectively. For slow speed of the driving shaft, the motors are set in operation in opposite directions ; for intermediate speed, the motor 2 is disconnected and the brake automatically applied to pulley 28, while for high speed the motors are connected to run in the same direction. Further intermediate speeds may be obtained by introducing resistances in the motor circuits.
