Reversal of the direction of a driving shaft a effects a reversal of the direction of the driven shaft e but at a different ratio by means of a sun gear b on driving shaft a, planet pinions c on a carrier member d integral with the driven shaft e, and an annulus gear n. The gears are of helical form so that the reversal of the drive moves the annulus axially for rings of ratchet teeth p, q thereon to engage respectively with teeth r on the carrier d or teeth s on a fixed ring t to give a solid drive in one direction or a reduced drive in the other when the annulus serves as a re-action gear.
