Abstract
910,653. Variable-speed gear. MOTOR INDUSTRY RESEARCH ASSOCIATION. March 17, 1959, No. 9158/59. Class 80 (2). A hydro-mechanical split-torque variablespeed gear comprises a sun-ring planet train 2 combined with a pump and motor fluid gear 1, the motor output 4 of which is transmitted through a ratchet, rotor, ball or sprag type oneway clutch 3 to the output shaft 10 of the epicyclic gear, thus preventing reversal of power flow in the fluid gear whilst its components are rotating in the normal sense. As shown, the planet gears are fast with an input shaft 7, the sun gear 8 drives the pump 9 of the fluid gear and the ring gear is fast with the output shaft 10. In Figs. 6 ... 8 (not shown), a one-way clutch is provided between the output of the fluid gear and the ring gear of one of two epicyclic trains of the gear described in Specification 766,659, wherein the planet carrier of the first train and sun of the second are connected to the input shaft, the ring of the first and carrier of the second are connected to the output shaft, and the sun of the first and ring of the second are geared respectively to the pump and motor.
